Please note that the true name of this location has not been disclosed to prevent theft, vandalism, and arson. In many areas the pubic regions and nipples had been burned through with lighters, which did not make them any less creepy. The newer section was basically a set of cages within cages, and many of the cages were covered with all manner of pornography, much of it rather disturbing.

The interior was a fascinating mixture of the older section built in the mid 1800's, which was much more deteriorated, and the 'newer' section built in 1898. I came back several times to look wistfully at them and see if I could scheme some other way of getting up to the next floor but without a jetpack it wasn't physically possible.Īs luck would have it, in the back courtyard is where all the local police take their breaks and the building is essentially inaccessible without permission, so I didn't have as much to worry about with vagrants. Considering the fact that my foot went through the floor before I even reached them, I decided not to risk it. I should point out that I have gone up very, very bad stairs before but these were entirely separated from the wall and a quick check confirmed that they were completely rotted out underneath also. One of the most unfortunate parts of the visit was that the stairway to the warden's quarters was rotted so badly that I couldn't risk going up it. Several areas had very bad flooring and were very dark, and as I was photographing it alone safety was never far from the back of my thoughts. The prison was brutally hot, but I was very excited to see the interior and I really wasn't disappointed. The portion of this prison dividing the 'new' section from the old one was covered with rust.
